Enchanting terrace in the heart of Crouch End village
When originally purchased as a family home, this snug terrace hadn’t been touched for thirty years, but although compact in area, the house had amazing ‘Tardis’ like qualities. Long in plan, the challenge was to open up the centre of the house and flood it with natural light from the roof space down. The central stair space was opened up to create a top lit triple height volume, filling the house with sunlight reaching all the way down to the previously gloomy, pokey entrance hall. In order to achieve this the Design Studio at the top of the house was cleverly accessed by a space saving oak spiral stair, and a fully opening pavement cafe style window with external balustrade opened the space up to spectacular rooftop views across the Crouch End rooftops, and Alexandra Palace beyond. Solid Iroko sliding-folding doors opened the bright rear kitchen out onto the garden beyond.
